Subject: RE: Agtalk national average corn yield

Nw Iowa
Southern mn, northern Iowa -40 compared to last year. Could be much worse with a early frost. Early planted corn could be almost same as last year before drownouts. Late planted corn really a crap shoot. Could be -50 or -100. You can really see nitrogen deficiency on all corn. On plus side soybeans have done cart wheels last 6 weeks. Could be within 5-10% of last year before drownouts. Looked like 80% of normal 6 weeks ago. Our weather has been almost perfect since around July 1.
Problem with a survey like this, people with worse crops tend to respond more than those with great crops. I am afraid with these late rains usda is not far off. biggest question is how heat affected whole Midwest. If this Aug takes off 3 or 4 bu rather than adding 3 or 4 like last year it is a new ballgame. Who can tell that till harvest?
