| This is a somewhat correct answer. Lots if people put a dimmer switch for a light on a fan so they can control the fan speed at the switch. These are incorrect switch for the application & will cause a whine at lower speeds. Correct switch should have a rheostat (sp?), and normally rotate to.change fan speed. Even a Hunter fan will whine with the wrong switch.
I don't 't profess to be an expert on the subject. Only reason I know when we remodeled our bathroom a few years ago the carpenter put the fan (Hunter)on a light dimmer switch. Have several Hunter fans & this is the only.one that whined at low speed. Had an electrician take a look at it & he said the switch was wrong type. Put a correct switch with a rheostat and whine went away | |
