SE ND | Irregardless how nice beans look, it comes down to August rains. This year we really needed them as the profile is dry. Every rain we've had here has been just enough to keep the crop growing well, but never any excess to recharge what was taken out last year.
Last year, the beans were knee high and it looked like they were going to be a disaster. Then we received 1.6" on August 14th and the beans did in the low 30's. Point being, were we to get a decent rain soon (a week) the beans could make good use of it. If we don't, it is going to be another painful experience watching a great crop fall apart.
The forecast for us is for a half inch this weekend. Long ways out, but hopefully the chances and amounts increase as it gets closer. Whatever happens, it's out of our hands. | |
