| My brother manages a fleet that has around 25 MBE4000s. Have yet to get a single one to 11,000 hours without a major. One they did an inframe and then 1500hrs later the cam broke. Gotta pull the liners again to change the cam, cam comes out the back. Turbo went on one, $8300 for a new turbo, no labor, rebuild place here in Michigan wouldn’t touch it.
They like the pre-2003 engines way more ham the newer ones. For some reason parts are cheaper. Last 5 years they have switched to DD13s.
One mechanic commented that from the time they stopped running 2 stroke Detroit’s they hadn’t done a single rebuild/in frame until the first Mercedes hit 10K hours. | |
