Subject: How to...

There are two different technologies to consider:

#1 - Mesh routers - My favorite and by far the easiest - basically you can plug 'n play. However, you do want to do the security things all router owners should do, change the SSID name, change the admin password. Mesh router system is quicker than bridge mode. Bridge systems use half the broadcast signal to communicate between the routers. Mesh systems use a separate frequency for control and communication. Eero is one of the best brands to look at, but also tips the investment scale at around $300. Despite their name, Google mesh are not the best, and should be avoided. With mesh routers, you simply buy additional units for the areas you want covered.

#2 - Bridge mode - Regular, off-the-shelf routers can be used. You will find better results if you buy matching routers - they talk better between each other. Leave the current router as is. On the bridge unit, log-in as administrator, and TURN OFF DHCP - that's the software that dishes out IP addresses to the network. Let one and ONLY ONE DHCP on any network. Next, find the section which lets you turn your router to "bridge mode". Make sure your routers are within range of each other, and away you go.
