Subject: RE: tariff

Saskatchewan
A significant portion of Canadians support the elimination of the CDN dairy quota system.

There are multiple problems that require an orderly and well thought out process of trade liberalization.

CETA was a step in that direction. TPP (with the USA) was supposed to be another large step in that direction.

One major problem is CDN dairy producers have invested and borrowed to acquire dairy quotas. If we eliminated the tariff tomorrow, it would bankrupt the industry.

The other major problem is the USA subsidies has encouraged overproduction. The USA overproduction is enough to swallow the entire CDN dairy industry.

Put the two problems together, and the effects are compounded. We need to sit together, and negotiate an orderly path towards trade liberalization.
