KY | So.. brand X was out pushing mineral today. Said they have a newer min on the market, costs about 20% more than most minerals available to me, but the research shows 30% higher wean weights, and does this by increasing milk production through hot weather, because their mineral lowers the cow’s core temp, allowing it to graze when it would otherwise be in the shade. (Their lingo, not mine). Key thing to me is they also say that the ingredient(s) that cause this won’t show up on the label because it’s “proprietary” technology. I’ve got to think that anything really doing that has to be a hormone. Guess I just don’t understand how a beef producer can’t use certain meds without a script but the big guns can alter a cow’s body temp with additives and his doesn’t have to be listed on the label?
