How does a tablet get data from a remote field where there is no wifi? Do you have to have a phone number assigned to the tablet for internet access? Can you text from a tablet if you do have to have a phone number? Can you get an app that will let you make phone calls from a tablet? How much is the monthly bill for all this data access say from Verizon? Thanks
Option 1: Your tablet would need to be capable of cell data if you are not near a wifi. It gets a phone number, as an account id.
Option 2: get a hotspot device, which is its own little gizmo that takes cell data and creates a small area of wifi. This lets you connect all sorts of laptops, tablets, etc in a remote place, but you need to drag it along and turn it on and see that it is charged, extra fuss that way.
I've seen apps that do text, not familiar how well that works.
Not familiar with phone calls - Skype of course and FaceTime on Apple products is nice video calling to other devices.
4gig of data a month for an iPad is $40. You can bundle with other tablets and phones, and there are other data amounts. Basically it is $10 a month per device; and the 4gig costs $30 a month. You can spend a little less, or lots more, for less or more data amounts.
