Subject: RE: Planting with RTK with auto steer

Alberta
I bought a used 500 monitor with rtk unlock and a 542 rtk base and radio. Start up immediately when base gets satellites and never loose signal except when out of radio range....presently we move it from field to field on a tripod mount. Signal is good on all our hilly land except in a deep hollow on 1 quarter. I try to set up the base in the middle of the quarter line, but some times when we farm the full half, tractor is a mile and a 1/4 from the base with no signal loss. Downside is once you loose signal, there is no way to get it back unless you switch to was or get back in radio range. RTK will not help in misses on bigger hills as there is more area to cover on a hill than on flat ground as well there is side draft on hills. RTK it is the only way to go for deadly accuracy. We seed silage corn with a 36 in planter then go back and inter row with a different variety or same variety for 18 inch spacing other than headlands where 500 will not inter row seed, you can not tell that we go over it twice for 18 inch spacings. when you look at the price of new, we were all in for about 15000 Canadian for used equipment, includes monitor, steering and rtk and we are not paying anyone for subscriptions.
