Black smoke indicates that it is getting too much fuel in relation to air. It could be an air restriction (mouse nest in the intake?), injector stuck open, exhaust valve stuck open, incorrect timing, ect.
Start with the simple things first. Disconnect the air intake and check for restrictions. Remove valve cover and check for stuck valves. If these two things check out ok, then move onto the fuel system.
