Wow! This is awesome! Kinda like the discussion below about Pioneer/Mapshots. "I was a computer dealer for Pioneer way back when. My first computer from them wasn't the double floppy everyone was still buying but I went all out and got the 20 meg harddrive and the monitor that could show color but had a switch to turn either amber or green like everyone was used to. I'm trying to remember prices. Seems to me the simple database bookeeping was over $1000, and they had some other things too. Seems to me it lasted until Quicken came along and set a new price point for everything and well there just wasn't enough to make it all work. Plus a bunch more companies started to produce agricultural software and split the market." (emphasis added) "Now we've kind of seen things shake out and there aren't too many left. And it doesn't surprise me that Pioneer wants to get back in." (posted by BigNorsk) This is Econ 101. Price is high enough to entice someone to engineer their own/do it cheaper-better-faster and lo an behold with enough competitors the price comes down so that nobody would even think about it!
Lance I would say that if you have the inclination and the time you should keep it. I realize it will take a tremendous effort and some help, but there are plenty of good people looking for work right now. I wish you the best of luck whichever way you go. |
