I wouldn't worry about power lines interfering with your signal unless they are really close to the radios.  By close I need 25 feet.  The cross section of the wire compared to the cross section of the radio wave is insignificant.  Do you have a clear line of site from both locations to a third location that can be used as a repeater?  It takes an extra radio but can really open up possibilities.
