South Georgia | I haven't used the handheld remote on a 500, but have used the remote keypad. I like it, and it's pretty cheap. You can mount it where it's easy to reach, and then mount the 500 where it's easy to see. Those keypads can be bought for around $35-40, last time I looked a few years ago. The older ones that are intended for a Ez Guide Plus work fine, the only trouble with them is the buttons are labeled wrong. The buttons represent the 500 buttons on the same relative location, so I don't have any trouble using it as long as I'm looking at the 500, not at the keypad.
