If you are totally new to it, I would recommend finding a local dealer that has a dedicated precision ag person on staff that knows what they are doing. You may have to try a couple places to find the one that can talk to you in a way that you understand. Some really smart people cannot communicate things very well to a newcomers level. I would also discourage someone from just buying the cheapest. Decide what you want to do in the next couple years. Auto steer, variable rate plant/fertilize, auto section control on planter or sprayer, yield monitor. Know what you would like to do makes a big difference on what monitor should be suggested. It my not be the cheapest entry level monitor within a brand, but could be cheaper in the long run.
+1. You could also see if you have a neighbor who would be willing to let you come by and check and out one of their systems. But a good dealer will help you find the right system and give you support along the way. The first year may be a bit of a challenge to get started learning all the quirks as with any system, but you seem like a sharp guy.
Thanks for all the tax advice you share. You spend a ton of time on that and it is appreciated!
