Sanilac Co. Michigan | I've got a four screen mill that's set up to scalp/sift, scalp/sift. Basically, the top shoe takes out the real big trash and the dust and fines, and the bottom shoe takes out the slightly smaller trash and the thins.
All that said, I clean a lot of oats and I think I could get an awful lot of the wheat out of the sample, but certainly not 100% of it. Couple things though: instead of just drilling through the thin stand, why not kill the wheat (tillage/glyphosate) before hand? Used to be pretty common in these parts when a lot of oats were grown and there were drowned out areas of wheat. The other thing is the worry about a little wheat in your bin run seed oats is kind of a non starter. Whatever winter wheat seed gets carried into the oats won't vernalize, so they ought not throw a head with viable seed. | |
