Western NY
Same situation here in Western NY. Low P+K soils PH 7.2-7.6 with a yield goal of 50-60. I can band dry with the planter and put on 200-250 # of 9-23-30 last year. Summer was cooler and average yield was 40. Going to band again this year with the planter in strip till. In high PH soils would I see a yield response from broadcast K plus band or stick to banding alone. Doesn't potash get tied up in high PH soils when broadcast? Had some sulfur in the mix 2 yrs ago but it was a drought year and yields were in the teens. Would really like to push yields higher (at least 50's) because we're not satisfied with 40. Thought about trying chicken or turkey litter but it takes a lot more time to spread and it wouldn't be incorporated. This year after wheat we're going to try a cover crop mix of cereal rye, radish, crimson clover, plus maybe buckwheat and sunflowers. On bean ground not going to wheat just cereal rye then beans again and keep rotating between beans wheat and cover crop rye. Would like to put corn in the mix but too afraid of losing money with $3 corn and 130 APH soils. Any suggestions what to try without going broke. Thanks
