Off topic, but your comment made me think of it...my grandpa used to talk of an old widow that had a "wood-wheeled Essex" and would travel to all the area funerals. Whether she knew the deceased and family or not, she would come pay her respects.
I have known of a few of those funeral attendees in a small town. Hey, it is chance to get out of the house and maybe score a meal and some visiting time afterwards.
By the way my grandfather had an Essex with wooden spoke wheels when I was a young kid. After WWII he traded it off for a new DeSoto. |
