Subject: RE: field cultivator chisel?

SC MN
I've been using straight 2 inch points on my 980 field cultivator for several years. Compared to sweeps, I can go deeper, pulls easier, get better trash flow and eliminate any possible "smearing" from sweeps in some of the wet spots. If I get the speed up to 7 mph or better I get pretty good mixing action too. I didn't check out that website for points, but I would think just about any straight point would work, with the only differences being wear characteristics. Your field cultivator will obviously not go as deep as a chisel plow but you could probably achieve your goal of 1 pass ahead of the planter. You would not be able to do that with a chisel plow. I would guess that 4 inches would be about max depth with the field cultivator unless you have some real mellow soil.
