I am a John Deere man thru and thru but the 1780 was about the worst folding planter ever made. It sounds like you are looking for a interplant planter. Between a 3600 and a 1780 it isn't even a contest. I know this isn't the question but if you buy a 1780, especially a worn out one you won't have time to worry about row cleaners or liquid starter. The day our 1780 left was one of the happier days in my life as far as machinery goes. We replaced it with a 1790, went from fixing to planting. Enough of my rant , hope I save you a lot of frustration
