Well for starters you are wrong about adsorption, rates they are much higher in a stable no till field. Also organic matter and tilth is destroyed by tillage, and as you suggest, much like a compost pile. That is NOT something you want going on in your field. The humus will be mixed with the soil by earth worms for free, no tillage need. The list goes on and on.....
