I think you would have better result applying one preplant & the other post. We have gone from putting our N down in either the fall or preplant to applying 45#N using 32% as our preplant chemical carrier followed by side dressing the balance of our N using AA. We also feel there's an added benifit from opening the soil with the AA bar, allowing oxygen to get into the soil. Guess the later goes back to my days of cultivating crops.
