We grew up knowing quite a bit about it. It flattened the city and they say Halifax most likely would have been larger than Montreal had it not been decimated (400k vs 4 million). People felt that blast over 200 miles away and it broke windows over 60 miles away.
NS sends a large Christmas tree to Boston each year as thanks for the help they supplied afterwards.
