A push was made to offer bin extensions (like Maurer) as a factory approved option for the 1680/1688/2188/2388. Cooler heads prevailed. There was no factory option bin extension prior to 2004. It's difficult to believe there was a factory option after that since the same conservative cueball Canadian who squashed that foolish 1990s proposal was still more or less running the engineering show for another decade past 2004.

Busted rims, final drive failures and broken rear axles are a natural consequence of the added weight from more bin capacity. That's why the grain tank extension makers are careful to add product liability disclaimers in their product literature that specifically says they aren't responsible for structural issues resulting from use of their products. They know big structural issues (like busted out rear axles) are coming but they wiggle out of responsibility with a few fancy words.
