Trimble’s directions are standing on side, smooth side towards the seat base, cables facing rearward
That's how mine was mounted in an 8120. Bracket on lower left side of seat. Nav II mounted on that bracket with smooth base side towards the seat. Wires to the back with excess lying in the rear right corner of the floor.
It worked fine in that orientation. If I remember correctly, you need to inform the system of the orientation position in the initial setup. I have since switched to Ag Leader's Steercommand when I had the system upgraded to an InCommand 1200. Its ECU is in that same location.
