What firmware version? If you update to version 7.x, it has a feature that fixes that issue. It will assume that the first direction you move after startup is forward, but you can reverse it if you accidentally back up first. It then keeps that same heading until the display is shut down. This way, worst case scenario is that you have to reverse it once right away, then not have to mess with it.
