West Central Alberta Coldest, wettest edge

I've toured a large area of western Canada this fall, the canola crop is no where near what it was last year.  There is a strip further north which had Goldilocks conditions, north of that too wet, south of that too dry.  It is fair to say that many areas are better than expected, but expectations were extremely low, with no rain, excess heat and wind all summer.  Add in the acres to the north which were too wet to seed this spring, or suffered from excess water, or seeded very late due to crops still out/too wet.  What I don't know is if Canola can rally without soybeans rallying first.
