I've used both a sprayer and dunk tank with bleach. I do think it helps but the main thing I have found is stem quality is the main indicator if a pumpkin will rot early. You want a stem that dries quickly and hardens off. If you have stems that are spongy or shrivel up after a few days, they are more then likely going to rot early. Like the last poster said, keeping that plant healthy to the end is key.
