Eating out for us is a special time to spend with each other or family and friends. If the price of a pop and leaving a nice tip becomes a burden, eating out is no longer enjoyable ...........I'll stay home and eat ramen noodles :)

Not necessarily disagreeing, but it's a matter of perspective. If only ordering $10-12 entrees, not spending that extra $3 a piece on a soft drink means that we can maybe afford to go out to eat a bit more often. That extra $3/hd goes quite a ways toward a much nicer tip for a good server as well.

Maybe I should have worded it differently.
If and when we go out to eat, I refuse to let the cost of a soda interfere with the enjoyment
of the evening. If the dollars are that tight. I'll stay home.

And I will buy popcorn at a movie theater :)

When the wife and I go out to eat, we go to McDonald's. She orders a combo meal, and I'll just order a couple cheese burgers off the dollar menu, she shares the fries, and drink+ free refills+ no tip.

How's that for cheap???? And we enjoy our meal.
