Subject: RE: Flying on Cereal rye cc

De Forest, WI
We plant for seed and usually out on 2-3 bu per acre. More later in the season. Usually gets planted after winter squash and corn comes off in late September or early October. It's really nice to drill into soybean stubble. The rye really likes the extra fixed nitrogen.

We save our rye seed and have it cleaned so cost of seed is low. Also use the straw for mulch on veggies so it is sort of like double cropping for us as most of the rye is cut green at boot the following year and field planted to squash/pumpkins.
