Hazelton, Kansas 6.75 miles N of Crowbar | The forage sorghum is what I would use. It seems to last longer and may catch some snow. I tried Sunn hemp and radish which I think helped with some deep drainage but left 0 residue. My favorite cover is double crop milo. DC soybeans if Residue is OK. All is dependent on how much water I have in the ground after wheat harvest. If I catch an August rain such as you have then I will plant a duke's mix of farmstore sunflower bird seed, forage sorghum, left over milo and soybean seed, bin run milo, turnips, etc. With the DC milo and beans I have a chance to make a little cash. Some times it is really good. If it doesn't rain or snow in the winter though the spring planted crop has been a disaster. I sure would plant something with the moisture you have as we all know out "here" that it will go away whether we use it or not. Good luck, Dirt |
