Around here everyone uses a spreader of some sort. A bbi type works the best. We use a new idea side throw. Some guys use horizontal beater spreaders.
They all work good. I couldn't imagine doing it with a side shooter or a big bucket on a skid loader. We put a 48 cubic yd semi load in 2 barns on a partial clean out and 1 load in each barn on a full clean out.
