NW Washington | Ground drive sprayers are common in parts of the wheat growing area of the Pacific NW where crawler and 4wd tractor were or are common. Many of them use a big sprocket on one wheel that drives a jack-shaft which in turn runs a big Hypro roller pump. The jack-shaft arrangement is to get rpm increases needed to run the pump fast enough. Then use a little hydraulic cylinder to open and close a valve to control sprayer output or use an electric valve. Remove chain when you go down the road. Calibration is a pain since you have to do it on the run. A piston pump could be used too, but they are spendy and need dampeners. | |
