School district is turning over 1200 Ipads this year and selling them to those in the district. They're priced at $25 for Gen 2, $50 for Gen 3 and 4, and $100 for Air's. They do not have chargers. Are they worth these prices? Some have had a hard life and some like my wife's were barley used because the material was on the laptop/smartboard and wouldn't work with the Ipad.

I would not get one with a big many pin connector. Those are old and slower and probably won't support new operating systems or do so very slowly. So not a gen 2.

I'm thinking gen 4 is the first small connector (8 pin) unit? That is what I am using and is still very serviceable, $50 is a good price.

How much memory do they have, I will guess minimal? 16 meg? That is the limiting factor, more would be better but for $50 I would buy a good working gen 4 16gig or better iPad to fool around with. Would be a good $$$ investment.

You can buy all sorts of chargers pretty cheap, you want a matching cord on one end (the 8 pin iPad type as I mentioned, not the older many pin deal... And common USB on the other end, will come with a wall and/or car adaptor, you want the more powerful ones that mention iPad on the box, not the lower powered phone ones.

Edit: Air machines are newer faster better, for double the price I would want more than 16gig memory then, if you don't know what you want or what an iPad is its a tough choice, the $50 gen4 is a good value, the $100 Air is bit more money to gamble on what you are getting for the money? I'd don't know.....
