The correct way to check compression on small engine is to spin the engine over backwards. This nullifies the effect of any compression release system. But it does sound like yours is low.


Cool idea, but how? Only thing I can think of, is remove the shroud and the coils, wrap a really long rope around the flywheel, and get a sturdy friend to haul on the thing. Is there an easier way? Is it possible to power a starter in reverse on the electric-start models?
