You asked about statisical analysis, I like to look at ROI better:
For Example: We did a replicated N trial on corn last yr. One N rate yielded 250 and a higher N rate yielded 256. After the analyzing the costs and returns, I decided that this higher N rate was not a viable practice and did not have a positive ROI as the increased yield did not even cover the cost of additional N, much less application cost. The company we worked with then analyzed the trial and concluded the yield difference was statistically different; my reaction was "wait....what?".
We have also done trials that have had a high ROI but supposedly were not statistically signficant, but from a farm profit stand point I will do the practice all day long.
Just trying to share another way to look at it.
