The possibility is an exhaust valve was open and in a heavy rain water came down the pipe and filled the cylinder. Water doesn't compress so it will break something if you rotate the engine fast/with power. It does not sound likely from your 'light rain'. That is why someone suggested rotating by hand, to notice the locked compression without having power applied to it.
A turbo charger could be in the middle of this? Then it could suffer from some water exposure.
Time is an enemy, as water sits on the shiny bits of the turbo or valve and starts rusting things up. If this happened yesterday not a big deal, if it happened 2 months ago.....
When you fire it up. Some goopy black stuff might blow out and spray around - the water and soot.
