Necessity is the mother of invention and we aren't anywhere close to "needing" a petroleum replacement so I wouldn't give anything right now an extra thought.  Even the electric craze is a feel good for the greenies when it is really a much higher polluter to manufacture the new car versus buy a 5 year old one.  Give me an electric that can go 500-600 miles, refuel/charge in under 5 minutes and do it again and I'll be interested because that is what my gasoline and diesel vehicles do.
