NW Iowa | It does seem that way. I read farm futures every morning and afternoon, granted there is some good numbers in there, but some repeat stuff. When wet weather hits, it is always stated something like this: "After 3 days of rain in the Midwest, the water shut off and planters will be rolling again before the next system moves in to dump another 2" of rain in 2-3 days". You would 'think' that those guys could figure that out, but I guess not.
Granted, if all you farm is sand, then yes, you could probably go plant and hour after the rain quit, but really? And I know some soils dry out quicker than others, hence the sand comment...
Oh well...we're not behind yet, lots of corn in the ground around here, but there are some guys who haven't started yet either (myself included). We always get it done, year in and year out...this year will be no different. | |
