nc ks | have some experience... herbicide residual from Callisto and maybe atrazine can be problematic some years. We have had poor luck if radishes and turnips emerge too early--the crop canopy can do them in and a dry spell can be detrimental also. We try to time seed application so that the canopy will be yellowing up not too far after cover emergence. This is ariel and so no cereals, just brassicas.
We also have had good luck using a drill to put out a rye/triticale/oat and brassica mix soon after corn harvest. We hope to have the dry spreader in a few fields while the combines are rolling putting on this mix this fall to speed up the process especially if we get some timely rains.
Have not had great luck with ARG as far as establishment so kinda quit messing with it and also have concerns of it being a weed. Sure sounds like the root mass and forage can be impressive if it works though.
We always put spring or winter peas with our oat mixes, but I think they are best utilized in a haying vs. a grazing situation. Have not really had great success with clovers.
