Subject: RE: JD 7000 depth setting

Each hol the T handle Goes in is 1/4 inch steps 1/4,1/2,3/4 ,1,11/4 11/2 etc
How do we know that all Rows are same depth?
If one row has disk opener wear 141/4inch diameter another 141/2 your depth will be different if both of these rows were T handle in 4&4 holes
I believe new disk are 15 inches and all must be replaced when 141/2

A good way to check depth of each row varying from the other is
1) place planter on concrete floor, get new wooden 4 by4 inch posts cut then in 1 foot lengths
Place these 4 by 4s under each gauge wheel with say T handle in depth setting hole 4 and 4
2) drop the planter on these depth blocks and check each row how far each rows DISK BLADE IS FROM CONCRETE FLOOR
You most likely will see over time rows out 1/4 inch or more compared to each other

It could be wear on gauge wheel arms, hitting rocks shock hit over time etc
Another way to check row depth variance is go to field take off pressure of closing wheels and hold them up with tarp straps Drop planter drive ahead ,check seed depth
It's hard to do this with original 7000 didn't have adjustable handle step pressure settings. They only had pressure settings by spring adjusted bolt,,,,, another subject can of worms ,,setting closing wheel pressure variance

IDONT believe this field method is as good as concrete floor method for accuracy check but is needed
