I really like my Canon printer and my Canon scanner.  They both work flawlessly.  They even work with Vista and both of them are about 4 years old.

Last week my scanner power supply died.  I contacted Canon via email and gave them my serial number on the scanner and the power supply.  I also gave them the purchase date, back in 2004.  They replied within a short time and said, "Your information has been entered for the replacement power adapter. "  I was not certain what that meant and today I decided to contact them and ask if they were sending me a new power supply.  They replied that as a gesture of good will they were indeed sending me a new power supply, and I actually got it via FedX a short time later today !

I've had HP, Epson, Star Micronics and a couple of other printers or scanners over the years and the Canon stuff has worked better than the others.  Now that they respond in this fashion amazes me.  I'll have no qualms about telling people what to purchase if asked.
