I know NOTHING about your climate accept that your winters are cold as hell so here are my votes.

Any type of brassicas like purple top turnips or rape maybe? Crimson clover? In my neck of the woods crimson clover grows until summer gets in full swing with 100 degree temps and enough humidity to make you puke if you over do it when you are outside working. Lol
