Subject: Re: wheat planting progress in Kansas

I have been wondering about timing on cutting soybeans. As soon as they test 13% or less, we cut them no matter what the plant looks like. There are always a few green pods and some 'lima' beans in the bin. I don't find any unthreshed pods on the ground. We are usually pushing because most of our wheat goes in after the beans so we want to get them done as soon as possible. Most of what I see around me is waiting for the beans to 'look' ready from the road. I don't want to take the risk of shatter loss and would rather sell 12.5% beans than 9% beans. What am I missing and why do they wait, most of them want to plant their wheat after the beans too.
