Subject: RE: Organic Matter in sod

Lincoln, North Dakota
Here is the soil samples off my fields that I raise garlic-sorghum sudan-pumkins-Nbuilder-Sweetcorn-field peas-garlic

Garlic followed with a cover crop of turnips/radishes. Sweet corn also followed by turnips/radishes
Cover crops are full season then worked under in early fall and repanted to oats or rye

Field 1 is 6 acres and field 2 is also 6 acres
Field 1 has made one complete rotation and field 2 was broke up last year. 20 samples taken from each field

Field 1 OM started at 3.1 when first broke up and was grass since the dawn of time.
Field 2 OM started at 2.8 and also was grass since dawn of time. crop last year was sorghum sudan.
Field 1 had very similar nutrient levels as field 2 did when broke up.
Only fertility used is manure spread year 1-3-5 of rotation
No manure was spread this year on field 1
Composted Manure/ straw was spread on field 2 @2 tons to the acre.
Field 2 will start same rotation and field one this coming year and will receive manure year1-3-5
Conventionally farmed.
Pretty much blow sand soil
Just thought id share my pet project with soil OM
