I don't know about Minnesota, but in Indiana the answer is no. You or your employee can drive your tractor/trailer to "first point of market" with just a basic Operators license, regardless of what type of license plate is on it ( farm plate or commercial). However, any driver ( including owner) MUST have a DOT physical !!! The above I am curtain on. Now, with that said, I think there is a mileage restriction and some sort of state line restriction but I don't know the rules on either one of those. I am
