Subject: RE: Trading refurbished combines

I know it's hard to swing the higher initial cost but you might consider starting out with a nicer 2166 or 2366 and running it longer.  We've ran our current '02 2366 for three seasons and right at 6,000 acres with less than $1,500 in repairs during that time but it has been through the dealer's shop before we bought it and it would need quite a few parts before it goes to the field this season but we just traded for a 2377.  Our shop isn't big enough to allow us to work on a combine during the winter and we've got enough other stuff to work on during the summer so for us at this point it's about as cheap to keep trading up as it is making repairs and then making a big jump at the next trade.  If we had a better shop I'd be more inclined to run a combine longer especially with the number of aftermarket and upgrade parts available for the Axial Flows although the price on late model Cat combines will have me considering one of them when we jump to a 12 row corn head.
