Scrapping plates are almost mandatory here for green in-line machines.  I'd bet 80% of the machines have them in at least the rear drum, many have them in both.  Conventional drum machines rarely had them installed.

Also,,,,, check your drive belts.  Sometimes they get loose and you  don't notice until things get tough then it makes a difference.
