With each new software version, new features, etc, there are changes to the software database and the way the data is stored. Each new version of software is written to be able read the previous database and update (migrate) it to the current version. However, if you are more than one version behind, as in this case (you're trying to skip from 5.02 to 6.0, without hitting 5.52), the software cannot recognize the old data. This is why you get the "data is too old to be migrated" warning.

There are two options available to you:
1. Uninstall everything, then reinstall 5.02. This will let you view all you old data. Then call the AFS desktop support number and ask them to send you 5.52 (and anything else you need to update to the latest version. Install 5.52, and open the software. The software will migrate the data. Then close the software and install 6.0, then migrate. Repeat for 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, and 8.0, and 8.5 if it's released. If you have a LOT of data already in 5.02, this is probably your best option. The software support guys are very good and will be more than willing to walk you through the upgrade/migration if you have any questions.

2. Uninstall everything, then rename your database directory and install the latest version you have. When you open the software, your Management Tree will be blank, because the software will create a new blank database. Then just reimport all of your old data from the old database directory. If you don't have much data, this is probably less hassle than Option 1. But you will still want to call software support to get the latest version, so you can keep current and don't end up in this situation again.

I would have to disagree about the Pro 600 being a step backwards. It is way more powerful than the UD+, and easier to use. There's just a learning curve when you're getting started, as with anything.
