Subject: RE: cover crops in cotton ?

Northeast Louisiana
We have used winter peas as a cover crop on some cotton the last 2 years. We really like the way it looks and plan on doing a nice chunk of acres with winter peas again this year. Burn them down 3-4 weeks before planting. The mat of dead peas has been easy to plant into and I think it helps suppress weeds. We put out direx or cotoran behind the planter and it seemed to work great. Cotton with cover crop started cleaner than cotton without it. Plan on trying cereal rye in a field or two this year.
