I'm not sure that the Sony MemorySticks will work; I think they are a proprietary format. The CompactFlash cards will work, though, if you have a PCMCIA adapter sleeve.

Yeah, the official AFS cards are overpriced. Envoy Data Corporation (www.envoydata.com) has ATA Flash cards for a lot less.

FAT and FAT16 should be the same. It's FAT32 that you want to avoid. When you format the card, there should be an option for the File System. You don't want NTFS or FAT32. If your only option is FAT, that's ok. If the MemoryStick still doesn't work after being formatted to FAT16, then I'd try an ATA Flash card or CompactFlash card. If I were you I'd try one of your CF cards. You can get a PCMCIA adapter from Circuit City or Best Buy for about $15.
